Crossing the apps bridge to the mobile web…the German way

This is exactly what the guys at RTL TV in Germany have done, with the creation of their hybrid iPhone application, launched last week. The application, developed by Netbiscuits, is a combination of web site and app that uses the latest HTML5 technologies, as well as the native functions of the device – you can [...]

Is Apple going soft?

Why are they relaxing their policies? It has long been the understanding that Apple wants every single slice of the pie. Their devices are so closed that the only way to get anything is via their all conquering app store. Everything from music, movies and the latest TV shows to humble ring tones need to [...]

Light at the end of the tunnel for mobile developers and users

HTML5 is coming…but not just yet There’s ongoing coverage in the media about the virtues of HTML5 and how great it’ll be for developers, once it finally becomes widely adopted. Android is taking a slice of the Apple pie

The gap is narrowing…rapidly As much as I agree with the common view that Apple has created one of the most innovative mobile devices, the iPhone, and is widely credited forhelping drive the uptake of the mobile internet worldwide, I’m actually the proud owner of an Android phone – HTC Desire and there are many reasons [...]

As we know, developers already face big fragmentation issues in the market and distribution restrictions continue to be a challenge for them.

An open message to the Guardian newspaper…

Charging for mobile app downloads is not the answer to declining ad revenues… This week saw one of the leading UK newspapers, the Guardian, launch a new iPhone app. I know there is nothing interesting in that alone, as all the newspapers have been jumping on that crowded bandwagon. But unlike other newspapers the Guardian chose [...]

How important are Smartphones and which matters most?

The research firm NPD Group have just announced a new survey that shows smartphone sales in the USA grew by 47% in Q2 and accounted for 28% of all handset sales. That’s a number big enough to make anyone selling to mobile take note – it’s more than a quarter of all your customers. And [...]
